Is Your Inner Superhero Stressing You Out

Published on March 28, 2018 by

Just about every morning we create ‘to-do’ lists, ambitiously starting off with the best of intentions, dreaming of going to bed at night having checked them all off the list. Invariably, somewhere around 3pm or 4pm, it becomes glaringly clear the entire ‘to-do’ list is not going to get done. The major culprit? Sometimes it’s time, but more often than not, it’s STRESS! We over promise and under produce, not because we’re lazy or crazy, but because we’re trying to be ‘super-woman’ or ‘iron-man’. However, ask yourself this question: Are we really required to expend our personal resources to the point where we run ourselves empty and dry? I’m inclined to think… NO!

Super Hero Mom

So, why do we let this happen? Yes, I agree there are times when something extraordinary is taking place and we must pull out all the stops. But this doesn’t happen every day! So what’s really going on? Well, after studying human behavior through hypnotherapy training and experience, it seems the guilty party is STRESS. At first glance, it may seem a ‘super-hero’ type of person is the epitome of confidence and poise, but look closer and you may see a tear in those tights, revealing a frantic need to just ‘be enough, which often causes us to pressure ourselves to unreasonable limits.

The need to ‘be enough’ zaps our energy and resources in so many ways and robs us of our peace of mind. It allows the pressures of the day to fill us with the fear of what tragedy might happen, if we can’t pull this thing off. We were born ‘being enough’, but somewhere along the way we started believing weren’t smart enough, or thin enough, or pretty enough, or strong enough, or whatever enough… Enough already! We don’t have to prove our worth, as a human being, it’s a given. What we may want to do, is find a balance between ‘being’ and ‘doing’. When we find our value and worth in ‘doing’, we never feel like we’re enough because there is always more to do than we can accomplish on our own. However, if we can first find a way to truly enjoy and appreciate the masterpiece we were created to be, the ‘to-do’ list becomes what it’s supposed to be, just a list.

So, what can we do about it?

  1. Start by giving yourself some love, grace and appreciation for being a human being, not superman! YES, you can.
  2. Re-evaluate your ‘to-do’list. Separate the tasks into (2) columns titled ‘gotta happen’ and ‘would be wonderful’. Only place 2-3 items in the ‘gotta happen’ each day list and place the rest in the ‘would be wonderful’ column.
  3. Go through each item delegate some of these tasks. Now, when you delegate, be careful of the ‘micro-managing monster’. Give a few simple directions and let the person figure out the rest by DOING. After all, isn’t that how we learned the thing in the first place?
  4. Finally, keep the end in mind. When it’s all said and done, what will you and the people you love remember? Frantically running around trying to get everything done or connecting with the human spirit. So, instead of trying to be ‘perfect’, just focus on being ‘real’.

If you’re still struggling to make the switch, consider using hypnotherapy to help your sub-conscious mind get on board with what you really want. Your hypnotherapist can use relaxation techniques, putting YOU even more in control of how you respond to daily stresses from within and without. By increasing your self-confidence and self-acceptance on a sub-conscious level, you’ll accelerate your results, in a gentle and comfortable way. You’ll have more energy to enjoy your life than ever before, and isn’t that the best thing to do for yourself, your friends and family anyway?

Toxic Relationships

Published on March 21, 2018 by

Life Coach

We have all experienced toxic people. They have been our friends, coworkers and family members; people we have met recently or relationships that we have had for a long time. Frequently, they can start out healthy and disintegrate into a non-healthy relationship. We often feel the negativity way before we recognize its impact on our day to day lives. Sometimes we confront the person but many times we justify that it is just who they are and attempt to navigate around them. Yet, we are left with this nagging feeling that something is just not right.

What is a toxic relationship? It is a relationship that doesn’t serve your higher good. Although it comes in many forms, the result is the same. It affects your peace and happiness. The relationship leaves you feeling like something is wrong with you or a sense of trepidation. It is commonly difficult to recognize because it can often be presented by the offender as “constructive criticism”.

These justifications leave you feeling like you should keep yourself open to this person’s judgement even though your gut is screaming at you that something isn’t right. A voice in your head starts questioning if this person really has your highest good at heart. Remember to pay attention to how you feel when you leave them. You might not remember what you talked about, but you will always remember how they made you feel.

The 10 signs of a toxic relationship are as follows:

  • 1. You are afraid to be direct and tell YOUR truth to this person; often finding that you are passive aggressive with them in order to express your point of view.
  • 2. There is continual criticism even if it is often presented as “constructive”. This is often used as a channel to devalue another.
  • 3. You frequently argue without really communicating. There is often yelling involved. Neither party really feels “heard”.
  • 4. There is a negative energy between you. The feeling is one of tension and being uncomfortable.
  • 5. You find it difficult to be authentic around them.
  • 6. You question if you do anything “right”.
  • 7. Personal growth and change are discouraged.
  • 8 You find yourself walking on eggshells, afraid to set them off.
  • 9. You just don’t feel internal joy or happiness when you are with them.
  • 10. It sometimes feels like a competition between the two of you.

Now the question is, what can be done about these negative relationships that we have welcomed into our lives. The first step is to take a long and hard look at each one and decide if we can let them go. We must remember the old adage “A reason, a season and a lifetime”. Maybe the person is someone that was just meant to enter our lives for a lesson and now it is time to move on. Appreciate what you shared together and put that new-found energy into yourself. Taking care of our spirit is the highest form of self-love.

If you have accessed the relationship and are not ready to leave, it is time to have a heart to heart talk with this person. Do not numb yourself to what is really happening between the two of you. Take control and be very clear about your expectations of the relationship and how you want to be treated. Be clear that sometimes it is not just one person’s fault but the dynamic between the two of you. Again, if you have been clear and set your boundaries within this relationship and it does not change, be prepared to walk away.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses and demonstrate both with the people we care about. Yet to live our lives to our fullest potential is the goal. To do this, we must evaluate the people we bring into our fold. Are we having a relationship with them coming from our strongest or weakest self? Life is short, time is limited, choose JOY.

Relax That Kid

Published on March 3, 2018 by

ADHD child therapy

All kids are amazing. However, some kids deal with more hurdles than others. A lot of kids these days are suffering from hyperactivity, restlessness, frustration or anger issues and parents are caught in the middle of this storm, looking for ways of helping to relieve symptoms that can be mistaken as ADHD (attention hyperactivity deficit disorder) in their children. We see these kids on a regular basis at An Optimal Brain, a wellness partner of An Optimal You. Parents seek us out because Brainwave Optimization (BWO) helps to relax the child. After a series of BWO sessions they typically experience calmness, peace of mind, and clarity and therefore are now in a better place to deal with their life challenges. Like all aspects of health and well-being, there are also other things to address in order to achieve balance. Before we begin BWO, we investigate the lifestyle of the child.

We start with diet. Each cell in our body, including our brain cells, require the right fuel in order to function properly. The big three food products that adversely affect our children’s activity levels are Sugar, Caffeine and Processed Foods. These big three either are a stimulant or can contain additives that are toxic. Avoiding these foods are important for all children, but if a child is already hyperactive or experiencing other types of emotional outbursts, it is imperative that parents take the time to review the child’s diet and reduce as many of the big threes as possible. Adjusting the diet ensures optimal benefit from the Brainwave Optimization. Balancing your child’s brain takes a multifactorial approach.

The next area to address is visual stimulation. The excessive exposure to electronic screens is adversely affecting the brains of our children. Douglas Gentile, an associate professor of psychology at Iowa State; and Edward Swing says U.S. children currently average more than six hours of screen time per day[1]. This is causing an excessive amount of visual stimulation and the developing brain of a child simply can not handle it. We are seeing the effects of this in negative behavior patterns seen in children all over the world.

Demystifying Detoxification

Published on January 31, 2018 by

Detox With Meyers Cocktail

Detoxification is talked about more often than ever before. Detoxification is all about removing the toxins that are in your body. We are exposed to chemicals in our food, cleaning products, air, water, personal care products, etc. In a perfect world our bodies perform detoxification to keep us toxin free. However, our detoxification systems (liver, kidneys, skin, etc) are overloaded in today’s world.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that the average person now has 212 environmental chemicals in their blood  ( things like mercury, lead, cadmium and industrial chemicals). The World Health Organization has studies claiming that we each have over ~700 chemicals in our bodies. It does not matter what the exact number is, what matters is that we are aware of the toxin overload that we all have and take measures to detoxify our bodies.

Detox with juices

Why is detoxification important??? The toxins in our bodies are believed to be the trigger to inflammation, auto immune diseases, cardiovascular disease, dementia, etc. Our current medical therapy is focused on treating you once you are diagnosed with a disease. Isn’t it much better to prevent the disease? And if you already have an issue or disease, doesn’t it make sense to treat the root cause? This is why detoxification is important.

Things you can do to detoxify:

  1. Drink adequate water on a daily basis. Try to drink from glass and not plastic since plastic has chemicals. Drink at least half of your body weight in ounces (ex. If you are 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces of water) Avoid alcohol, soda, and other drinks if you can. If you must drink alcohol keep it to a minimum amount, such as a max of 1-2 per week. Alcohol consumption has been linked to liver disease, breast cancer, weight gain, etc. You need a healthy liver to detoxify properly. Minimize the chemicals that you put into your body so that your liver can detoxify what you already have.
  2. Breathe deeply and slowly. Meditation and yoga can be great ways to help you to breathe properly. Our lungs are wonderful detox organs.
  3. Eat a healthy whole food diet that includes a lot of vegetables. Vegetables contain a variety of wonderful nutrients to assist detoxification. Of course eat organic vegetables to avoid introducing more toxins. In addition make sure that you are eating plenty of fiber, about 30-40 grams per day as fiber helps your intestines to remove toxins. For specific detox nutrition advice, please consult with Joseph Montgomery of Brilliance Nutrition.
  4. Take a magnesium salt bath. Magnesium is a wonderful mineral that helps us to calm and relax. It also assists our body in detoxification. The Float Experience in Temecula is fabulous if you want an hour and a half of enjoying a magnesium bath while detoxifying your mind and body by floating in a peaceful, sound free, gravity free environment.
  5. Go in an infrared sauna on a regular basis. Infrared saunas have been shown to assist your body in detoxification and also assists in lowering inflammation. There is one located in suite 203 in our building if you do not have access to one.
  6. Get a Meyers Cocktail IV plus Glutathione IV at the office. This IV combination boosts your body’s natural defenses against illnesses band also assists in detoxification. You can get these IVs weekly or as needed. You can also increase your daily consumption of oral vitamin C as this assists your body in detoxification.
  7. The bottom line to remember is to be aware of the chemicals that you are putting into your body on a daily basis and to reduce the toxin load wherever you can. Replace the products that you use and consume on a regular basis with safer ones when you can. Do things on a regular basis, such as those listed above, to assist your body in detoxification. Please get medical advice from an Integrative medical practioner if you need guidance or additional help (such as chelation, etc).

New Year Reflections

Published on December 13, 2017 by

The new year is a great time to reflect upon what you would like to improve in your health and make positive changes. Sometimes this can seem overwhelming and yet, it can be a simple thing to do. There are things you can do in order to make positive changes painlessly and move towards your goal. Everyone thinks that you have to make drastic changes immediately, this is simply not true.

Healthy New Years

The first step is to set aside an hour or two to focus on what you want. If you are not clear on where you are going, it is easy to get off track. You are worth taking some time to visualize how you want to feel and look a year from now. Write down your thoughts. Include as much detail as you can—involve all of your senses(sight, sound, feeling, etc) . Write down what achieving your goal will mean for you in your life using all of your senses. Dig deep and write down everything that comes up. Use a pen and paper— this works better with our brains.

Once you have a clear idea on what you desire, you can achieve it by taking small actions daily towards your goal. Take your vision and first write down the big steps that it will take to get to your goal. Then break those down into smaller steps until you come up with easy to do action steps. You will be able to use your emotional attachment to your goal to help motivate you to stay on track as you take these small steps.

Next, write down obstacles in your life that could derail you from your plan. Be honest with yourself. Things are going to come up and that is to be expected. Plan for them and know how you will handle them.

Here is an example for you to understand the above recipe for success:

5 Healthy Tips For The Holidays!

Published on November 28, 2017 by

Life tends to be stressful these days and the holiday season seems to add to this stress for most people. This added stress can adversely affect your health, sleep, and vitality. Why not take some time during this holiday season to care for you so that you can protect your short and long term health and vitality

These tips are great all year long and especially important during the holidays:

  • 1. Remember to breathe! It seems like such a silly thing to ask you to do, but most people do not breathe properly. Most people are breathing shallowly and this causes anxiety, high blood pressure, fatigue, etc. Be aware of your breath pattern. Take a moment and make sure that you breathe deeply and slowly. Do this throughout the day–it only takes a moment and costs nothing, yet it can have incredible health benefits and helps you to feel relaxed.
  • 2. Limit the sweets and alcohol. I understand that this is a time where goodies surround us all. Be picky and make conscious choices about the treats that you eat and drink. It is all too easy to eat and drink without thinking about the consequences. It’s ok to have some fun, just take a moment and make a choice rather than just reacting to what’s around you. Avoid going to holiday parties starving–that will help you to avoid rash choices.
  • 3. Plan some down time. The holidays are a time where invitations will seemingly come out of the air. By booking time for you in your calendar, it will be easier to have time to renew. We all need down time. As much fun as events may be, going to everything may drain you of desired energy. Take a few hours, or even a day, to say yes to an invite. Go to the events you really want to go to and be ok saying no to the things that feel are too much. It’s ok to take time for you–it is the smart thing to do.
  • 4. Get a Myers cocktail and Glutathione IV. The high dose Vitamin C and variety of nutrients in the Myers cocktail has been shown to be a great immune booster. It can help you to stay healthy and fight the viruses that surround us. I always get one before travel and at the first signs of an illness. The extra stress during the holiday season can weaken our immune system and make it easier to get sick. Getting IV nutritional support can help your body stay strong. Adding Glutathione to the Myers cocktail is a potent combination. Glutathione is a strong anti-oxidant and gives additional immune support.
  • 5. Keep exercising if you already do. If not, add some activity to your day. It is all too easy to get busy and not exercise. Regular activity helps your mind to relax and your body to function properly. Any activity is better than nothing. Even five minutes of some sort of activity offers a health and mind benefit. Avoid using the holidays as an excuse not to exercise. This is a time of year that requires regular activity. When you feel any stress, take a quick walk. It greatly minimizes the stress.
Health Tips

The above five tips are easy to do and easy not to do. It comes down to making a choice to take care of yourself. Do you want to feel and look your best? If the answer is yes, then start with these simple activities. By being aware of your daily choices and taking these small steps, you will find that you are better able to withstand the holidays. You will feel more relaxed and also more vital and energetic. You will also have developed healthy habits for the new year. You will feel better now and in the long run.

The Many Facets of Health

Published on October 28, 2017 by

How many times have you done something to improve your health, only to stop doing it because you felt it was not working?? If you have, you are not alone. I have seen this time and again. Someone will be doing something positive for their health but when the results are not there, they stop doing it. But Optimal Health is not attained from one thing. It is achieved by doing a wide variety of positive things for your health. Many of these things seem insignificant, and yet they are not.

Bio Identical Hormone Health

I find that comparing our bodies to a car can help you to better visualize the different parts that are needed to feel Optimal. For a car to function properly it needs to have gas in the tank, oil in the engine, a working ignition switch, coolant, spark plugs, etc. Imagine putting gas into your car and trying to start the car but for some reason the car does not start. Do you stop putting gas into the car because that did not work?

No! We know better than that. You would keep a full gas tank and investigate for other issues. You would not stop putting gas in the car. It takes having the gas, the oil, the coolant, working parts, etc to get a car to work. If a car does not run right, you keep ensuring that all of these pieces are addressed. You would not let the gas tank or oil reservoir go empty and expect the car to work.

This may make sense not to do this to your car, and yet I have seen people do this to their health. I have often seen someone who is exercising and not losing weight, simply stop exercising. This does not make sense. Healthy exercise is an important piece of having a healthy weight but it’s not the whole puzzle. Trying to lose weight and stopping exercise while you address something else important for weight loss, is like having an empty gas tank in your car expecting it to still run once you fix the engine.

I see a lot of people for Hormone balancing because they wish to feel better. Feeling optimal takes a variety of things. Taking Bio-identical Hormones helps tremendously and is an important piece, they are not the only piece. Testosterone, Progesterone, Estrogen, and Thyroid Hormones are like the gas in the car. An Optimal level of these hormones is critical for your body to function. You also need other things to be working properly. If the other aspects of your health are not addressed, you will still function better on Bio-identical Hormones, just not as optimal as you can when your “car”(body) is fully tuned up.

Natural Anti-Aging Therapy

Aging well with Ozone

Ozone is composed of 3 oxygen molecules. The air we breathe is composed of 2 oxygen molecules. The extra oxygen molecule makes ozone a “supercharged” oxygen and gives ozone it’s capability to do some amazing things for your body. Medical grade ozone is safe and quite effective.

Ozone Molecules

The use of ozone to treat medical disorders was first established in Germany in the 1950’s. It is now a common modality in Europe and it’s use is growing in the USA. Ozone Therapy should only be administered by properly trained medical professionals.

Ozone is a potent regulator of the immune system. It can calm down an overactive immune system–i.e. in autoimmune disorders. It can also stimulate an under active immune system i.e. with chronic infections, cancer, etc. It does what your body needs.

Ozone has the ability to cause white blood cells to produce cytokines–immune related messengers. Ozone also stimulates DPG (diphosphoglycerate enzyme) which enables hemoglobin to release oxygen to the cells. This increases the body’s oxygen utilization. Diabetics commonly have a low amount of DPG. Ozone enhances your blood flow and improves circulation. Ozone also increases anti-oxidant protection. This is especially helpful for those with chronic disease.

O3 logo in the sky

Ozone is a powerful stimulant of mitochondria–the energy producers inside each cell of your body. Decreased mitochondrial energy production is a key cause of degenerative diseases–from diabetes to heart disease to cancer to autoimmune diseases.

Ozone administration into the blood is the most common and effective way ozone is administered systemically. You sit comfortably in a chair and 6 to 12 ounces of blood is removed by IV into a sterile iv bag. Ozone is then injected into the bag by the RN and the ozone is gently mixed with the blood. The ozonated blood is then returned to the body.

The entire IV procedure takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Ozone can also be administered rectally or vaginally-this is a good systemic alternative for patients with gut disorders or who can’t tolerate IVs. If you have one or two specific points of pain, ozone can even be directly injected into these areas. This is called Prolozone.

The use of medical grade IV blood ozone on a monthly basis is a great anti-aging tool when combined with healthy lifestyle changes and hormonal balancing. To treat specific disorders and diseases, a more frequent schedule is required and is determined individually.

Things You Should Know About Vitamin C

Published on October 2, 2017 by

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water soluble vitamin that performs a wide variety of functions in your body. Most people know that Vitamin C is important for forming and maintaining connective tissue (skin, bones, blood vessels). But Vitamin C does so much more than that.

Vitamin C is an important factor in keeping your cardiovascular system healthy–helping to prevent heart attacks and strokes. It works to keep the lining of the blood vessels (endothelial cells) healthy. Endothelial dysfunction is linked to arterial plaque formation and Vitamin C helps to prevent this dysfunction. Vitamin C also assists your body in keeping blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipid (cholesterol) levels at healthy levels. All of these functions reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Things You Should About Vitamin C

Cancer prevention and treatment is another exciting thing that Vitamin C can assist with. Vitamin C can decrease the cellular DNA damage that leads to cancer formation–helping you to avoid cancer. It also has been shown to help kill cancer cells if they do form and to minimize the toxic effects of cancer treatments. Higher dose Vitamin C by IV is fast becoming a sought after treatment therapy for those with cancer.

In addition to these functions, Vitamin C is a wonderful aide to your immune system–helping your body to fight the common cold and other respiratory illnesses. Higher dose Vitamin C has been widely shown to diminish your symptoms and lessen the length of respiratory illnesses. It can even help alleviate chronic asthma symptoms.

The wonderful benefits of Vitamin C go on and on. It helps your body to absorb iron, it can reduce fatigue, it can improve eye health, and it can increase the fat suppressing hormone Leptin. Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant that you need on a daily basis.

There are a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that contain Vitamin C. Good sources include citrus fruits (i.e. oranges), apples, kiwi, dark green leafy vegetables, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Even though the recommended daily allowance is 75 mg/day for women and 90 mg/day for men; we are realizing that is just enough to prevent disease. For optimal health and wellness we feel that at least 400 mg/day is better.

If you do not get enough Vitamin C in your diet, taking a daily supplement is advised. I also like to add the IV Meyers cocktail (Vitamin C plus other nutrients) or high dose Vitamin C IV by itself if you are starting to feel ill from a respiratory illness, undergoing cancer treatment, or wish to optimize your overall health. Before a stressful event such as travel or surgery, I have found the IV Vitamin C to also be helpful.

Take care of your body and it will take care of you. Take the time to give your body the nutrients, exercise, sleep, and mental relaxation that it requires. You are worth it!!

Lymes Disease

Lyme Disease

The number of Lyme’s disease diagnosis seems to be increasing in number. If you have been properly diagnosed with Lyme’s disease then this article is for you. If you think you may have Lyme’s disease please get properly tested and research the symptoms of Lyme’s disease.

As you know, this disease can cause quite a bit of suffering and disability. Chronic Lyme’s disease is basically a dysfunction of your immune system to rid itself off this invader. A properly working body should be able to eliminate this infection. Simply throwing antibiotics at it, does not work.

Successful chronic Lyme’s disease treatment involves a multifactorial approach. It is critical to properly support your body nutritionally, emotionally, and with proper rest. In addition, adding in IV blood Ozone treatments along with IV Myers cocktails (high dose Vitamin C) has been found to have a fairly high success rate. Ozone has been around in the medical field for the past century.

Ozone works by jump starting your mitochondria. It gets your immune system to start working and fight off the invaders. Your body has the capability to fight, it needs the proper ingredients to do that. Ozone increases the oxygen utilization of your cells. Oxygen is a key ingredient for each cell to work optimally.

IV blood ozone treatments for Lyme’s disease have shown the best results when given once or twice daily for four days a week for three weeks. This is followed by periodic treatments by IV or rectally.

Systemic stem cells (IV stem cells) are another alternative treatment modality for a variety of diseases including Lyme’s disease. It is newer than ozone but is showing promise. If someone has the funds, adding a systemic stem cell treatment once in a while can help tremendously.

Lyme’s disease affects people both emotionally and physically. A treatment program needs to be comprehensive in order to combat this disease. Overcoming Lyme’s disease can be done.
