This article is geared towards women but men can learn from this to better understand and help the women in their life.
As women, we carry an ancient rhythm within us—one that mirrors the phases of the Moon, the turning of the seasons, and the sacred dance of life itself. This is our monthly cycle, also known as our moon cycle or menstruation cycle. And just like the Earth goes through her seasons, we too experience four powerful archetypal phases each month: The Crone, The Maiden, The Mother, and The Enchantress.
Each phase of your monthly cycle is not just biological—it’s emotional, spiritual, ancestral. Women who fight their cycle often feel disconnected, exhausted, and emotionally “all over the place.” But when you align with the rhythm of your womb and stop internalizing the shame around your feelings—you begin to heal.
When we live in alignment with these phases—rather than resisting them—we tap into profound levels of intuition, energy, creativity, and harmony. There is nothing wrong with feeling tired, moody, vibrant, or sensual. The key is to stop fighting ourselves and instead, recognize the beautiful gifts each phase brings. By honoring our nature, we open the door to deep healing and inner balance.
If you have stopped cycling and have entered menopause, it is still important to understand these phases in order to heal past trauma or issues
Let’s explore each of these sacred phases:
This is the time of bleeding, where we enter the energy of the Crone—the wise woman. It is a sacred time of deep intuition, reflection, and release. Like winter, it calls us to slow down, pause, turn inward, and listen to the whispers of our soul. Dreams become more vivid, instincts sharpen, and we are invited to meditate, rest, and let go of what no longer serves us.
This is a powerful time to face inner truths, grieve, forgive, and open ourselves spiritually. This is where so many women become numb because instead of resting, they hustle. Instead of crying, they suppress. And those emotions? They don’t disappear. They get stored in the body.
Ask yourself: Are you letting go of what no longer serves your highest good? Your inner Crone knows the answer.
As the Crone’s winter thaws, we are reborn into the vibrant energy of the Maiden. The Maiden is dynamic, playful, and full of promise. This is when your energy comes back online. You feel inspired. Determined. Playful. This is your yes phase. It is a time for action, ambition, and confidence. Like spring, our bodies awaken, and we feel energized and ready to take on new ideas, projects, and adventures.
This is when we feel most independent, driven, and connected to our sense of self. We radiate youthful energy and a fresh zest for life. You may feel more sociable and motivated, but be mindful. If you haven’t processed the emotional gunk from your Crone phase, this energy may feel forced.
Ask yourself: Do I allow myself to play & have fun? Your inner Maiden knows the answer.
The Maiden evolves into the Mother, and the energy softens but deepens. You shift from self-focus to service—but this isn’t martyrdom. It’s magnetic generosity. This is the phase of nurturing, giving, and loving unconditionally. Whether or not we are physically mothering, this archetype lives within all of us.
During ovulation, we are radiant and magnetic—our energy turns outward, toward supporting others, building community, and cultivating what we’ve started. It’s a beautiful time for connection, service, and sustained growth. You’re intuitive, grounded, and in your heart. But women conditioned to always “hold it all together” often perform this phase, even when they’re depleted.
Ask yourself: Am I giving from love or from fear of disappointing others? Your inner mother knows the answer.
As ovulation ends, we enter the mystery of the Enchantress. Often misunderstood, this phase is wild, intuitive, and deeply magical. If the egg is not fertilized, the body prepares to release—and so too does our spirit.
Our dreams intensify, and our intuition is at its peak. We may feel deeply creative, passionate, or even irritable—but these are not flaws. They are signals calling us to pause, reflect, and reclaim our power.
The Enchantress reminds us of our worth, our boundaries, and our spiritual gifts. This is the phase culture tells women to be ashamed of—because here, you stop pretending. You feel everything. The emotions that were suppressed all month? They rise. And if you haven’t created space to feel them, you may explode. You may withdraw. You may turn to coping tools like food, wine, or isolation.
But the Enchantress isn’t a problem. She’s your truth-teller.
Ask yourself: Are you sharing the truth about how you truly feel? Your inner Enchantress knows the answer.
Each of these phases is sacred. Each holds a key to unlocking your vitality, your healing, and your feminine power. The more you learn to listen to your body—and honor where you are in your cycle—the more balanced and joyful your life becomes.
You are not meant to be the same every day. You are a cyclical, radiant being, dancing with the Moon and blooming with the seasons.
