This year has been a world wind of emotions, good, bad, and unhealthy. From closures to mandated regulations many people have been thinking about what is wrong and on the negative around them. Let’s change that focus. Just like a car, our lives go in the direction we look.
What are you looking forward to in the next year? A more vital and fit body? A healthier mindset? Feeling more at peace? More time to do the things you enjoy? Getting off medications? Taking better care of yourself? Have you been focusing on what you don’t want vs what you do want?
If you don’t take time to think about what you want, how can you achieve it? Setting an intention for wellness (mind, body, spirit) is a wonderful way to ensure that you make the changes needed to achieve the result that you truly desire. Setting an intention simply means deciding what you want and thinking about it, making it a focus each day. By doing this, what you desire becomes part of who you are and the little choices that you need to make each day to achieve your goal becomes easier.
So how do you go about setting your intention?
Be in the Moment: Give yourself some quiet time to really think about what you desire. By digging a little
deeper to understand the feeling underneath the desire, it will help unearth the emotions that will drive you to achieve what you desire. Your intention can be big or small, something specific or general, it just needs to be something that you desire.
Ignore the negative self talk: Not believing that the intention is actually possible for you is a common intention-setting challenge, which can impede the intention from manifesting. For example, if you intend to find love in a partner, but you don’t really believe that it is possible, this will sabotage your intention setting. To overcome the negative self talk, look for where love is already present in your life.
Find ways to show yourself that what you desire is possible.
Write down your Intentions: Hand writing your intentions will set them in stone within your mind. It is a commitment to yourself and it will solidify what you desire. It will also be something that you can look at repeatedly. In your journal or on a piece of paper, write down the date, and what your intention is.
Surrender and lean into faith: Sometimes, when we are setting an intention, we use it as a vehicle to control our lives, but there is an element of faith and surrender — a quiet receptivity, This is not about waiving the white flag or giving up. Surrender is an absence of resistance, which allows positive things to flow to you. Ifyou find yourself being
overly controlling with your intentions, remember to take a step back and let go of any resistance.
Be flexible: The intentions are not set in stone. Intentions are constantly moving targets that change and evolve as we grow, and change what we desire. Avoid getting stuck on an intention that no longer serves you. There is no sense in stressing out over setting the perfect intention. Give yourself permission to change and adjust your intentions as you go, which in turn helps release control over the situation.
This is your life and you are in the driver’s seat. Where is it that you want to go? Set aside time to decide what you desire in 2022. You will be amazed at how effective it can be when you are clear on what you desire and you follow the guidelines listed above. And for those who are skeptical about this, why not try it? Is there any harm? There can only be positive results from setting intentions for what you desire.
