Five years ago, the FDA tried to ban some of the bio-identical hormone treatments that are being compounded and used by thousands of people. Having access to bio-identical hormones gives people the ability to live a life full of health and vitality; and they have been proven safe over the years. The FDA failed five years ago because it did not have the authority to ban these treatments. S.959 contains a provision which would give the FDA the authority to do just that, and much more.
You need to act now to prevent the FDA from having the right to ban your bio-identical hormones.
The U.S. Senate will vote on S.959 within the next two weeks, so you must act now to stop this bill from passing.

On May 22, 2013, the U.S. Senate Health, Energy, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee approved S.959, which would give the FDA unprecedented control over compounding pharmacies and the medications upon which many patients depend. All pharmacies, including compounding pharmacies, currently undergo regulation by their respective state boards of pharmacies. Additional FDA regulation is not needed.
Pharmaceutical companies do not like the competition that compounding pharmacies give and now, the FDA wants to regulate compounding pharmacies so that they can help to eliminate this competition. Why would the FDA care? Think about this fact: the amount of money that pharmaceutical companies can give to Congress far outweighs the amount that compounding pharmacies can contribute. Whatever your thoughts are about the reason, the important thing to realize is that additional regulation leads to decreased freedom of choice for Americans.
S.959 was written as a response to a tragedy caused by contaminated injections distributed by New England Compounding Center. This tragedy had no connection with bio-identical hormones. Congress is using this tragedy as an excuse to give the FDA authority over compounding pharmacies in an unprecedented manner. The FDA already has the authority to prevent the recurrence of that tragedy, they do not need the expansion of their authority in order to prevent further such tragedies. Everyone is for increased safety, but the NECC tragedy should not be misused in order to deny you the right to obtain bio-identical hormones from reputable compounding pharmacies.
