Hormonal Imbalance And Your Skin

We need to be as concerned about what we put on our bodies, as much as, what we put into our bodies. Read labels on your skin care to make sure there are no artificial dyes (colors), fragrances, animal by- products, phthalates, parabens, or mineral oil in them.
Animal By-products are produced as a result of dead animals taken to rendering plants. Here they are processed and used in many commercial products. A lot of companies in the cosmetic industry use them in their skin care and makeup lines. These by-products have many names to hide their true source, such as Glycerin and Lanolin. Mineral oil is a by-product of the distillation of petroleum (what they make your gasoline from). It is often listed as petrolatum, paraffin wax, or mineral oil.

All of the ingredients listed above can act as hormone disruptors. They are called xenoestrogens or false estrogens. When they are absorbed into your body they can actually act just like estrogen. This can cause your hormones to get out of balance. Estrogen dominance (too much estrogen as compared to progesterone and testosterone)is the end result and it is not a good state. It can cause many things including, but not limited to, the following: feeling moody, irregular periods, gaining weight, bloating, and it may even lead to certain cancers.

You can help your body keep hormonal balance by using products without hormone disrupting chemicals such as mineral oil, petroleum and preservatives like phthalates. Buy products from a company that clearly states that they do not use these ingredients. If they do not mention these ingredients not being in your products, assume that they are in them. Balancing your hormones is not just about taking bio-identical hormones, it also involves paying attention to what you eat, getting enough sleep, minimizing stress and avoiding chemicals that disrupt your hormones. It is worth the time and money to do all of these things because the end result is that you feel and look great!
