Night flash or a hot flash??

Hot Flash

Menopausal women have a common complaint of what they call a hot flash. What you may not realize is that there are hot flashes and there are night/day sweats. A hot flash is when you have about 30 seconds of feeling extremely hot, possibly turning red and then it is gone as quick as it came. A day/night sweat is when you feel warm and sweaty for a longer period of time.

Why does this matter?? They are caused by two different things. A hot flash is a sign of low Estrogen and a night sweat is a sign of low Testosterone. This is critical becaue often women will tell their doctors that they are having hot flashes when they are really having day/night sweats. They are mistakenly given estrogen or their estrogen is increased. This puts them at an increased health risk without fixing the root of the problem. You should get yout FSH measured to see if your Estrogen level is correct and yout Testosterone level measured to see if your Testosterone level is correct. Combining the lab results and your symptoms will allow a properly trained hormone specialist to determine what bio-identical hormone replacement is right for you. There is no reason why you can’t have healthy aging both inside and out!! You should be able to live life optimally and feel your best for as long as possible.
