Sugar and high fructose corn syrup
There is a lot of controversy out there around sugar and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). There are groups that state they are the same and others that state HFCS is more dangerous. First I would like for you to realize that humans used to eat teaspoons of sugar a year and we now average 140 to 150 pounds per year! (Including HFCS) No matter what you believe about HFCS/sugar, you have to admit that is not a good trend!
We all need to drastically reduce our intake of sweets and processed foods. If you think it does not affect our health, then how do you explain the drastic increase in chronic diseases (diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc) that has occurred at the same time our diet has increased in the amount of processed and sugary foods? Common sense tells you that a whole foods based, healthier diet makes you feel better and helps your body function better.
Now, when it comes to HFCS there is a lot of propaganda out there to influence you to think it is a good thing. Why would companies spend so much time and money trying to convince you it was healthy if it is healthy?
I have yet to see advertising for truly healthy things like broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Things that make us feel good and function better are typically not highly advertised, are they?? They don’t need to advertise them, we know they are good and besides, healthy products do not typically bring in the big money that unhealthy products do.
My advice is to check out the true data for yourself and use common sense. You will realize that HCFS is not healthy for you to consume and it is linked to many different disease states. If you avoid it and I am incorrect, no harm is done to you or your body. If you consume it and I am right, you and your body will pay the price. It is up to you to decide.
